Blackthorne™ ≠ inSL

Blackthorne Blog

Ridiculous adventures in the virtual environment of Second Life© - random twitter-esque musings and other often boring but sometimes interesting things.

Be warned, after perusing this site, you may just go running away, ridiculously insane. There also is a feed from my 'SL Views' blog: Socially|Mundane here. I'm also a "twit".

See other blogger posts I really like.

Why stressing over Copybot derivitives is a waste of effort

Informant: Emerald is a compilation of all the legit enhancements to the Second Life Viewer
Informant: And it’s completely safe, you can trust me on that, but yes they were all originally derived from the same people in the same place, most creators were underaged boys and made hacked viewers to sell to normal Second Life users, or so they could steal content for themselves.
    [6: 57] Tenshi Vielle sighs
Tenshi Vielle: So basically anyone not using the Linden Lab viewer… hell maybe even people using the LL viewer … have the ability to steal content. From anyone. Anywhere.
Informant: It depends, the actual viewer has to be compiled with the integrated copybot
Informant: User compiled clients turn into custom viewers like Cryolife
Informant: You don’t have the ability to use a copybot in the normal viewer you download from the SL website
Informant: But, if you get a hold of the source code for the import/export it’s fairly simple to integrate
    Tenshi Vielle: Ugh.
    Tenshi Vielle: We’re so fucked.
Informant: I know, there’s nothing much that can be done about it really
